Grant to aid teaching of U.S. history

The Clark County School District has received a $985,729 federal grant to improve the quality of teaching American history.

The money, received Friday, will be used for teacher training aimed at fostering greater knowledge and understanding of U.S. history.

A similar grant of nearly $1 million was awarded to the Washoe County School District earlier this week.

The funds are part of the Teaching American History grant program, which will give out a total of 122 grants worth $118 million to school districts in 40 states nationwide, in addition to Puerto Rico.
